Mod music faves
Reading time: 1-2 minutes
Modular music, or Mods for short, are music tracks made on computers before the MP3 format turned into the de facto standard. When I discovered them as a kid I was hooked and downloaded as many as I could on the slow dial-up internet connection of the time. A few years ago, I converted some of my faves to my personal MP3 music library which I listen to every once in a while.
Below are a few tracks worth checking out from the guys that did one of the most famous Demoscene demos of all time. You'll need a player that could handle the various Mod file formats. I recommend using the VLC media player.
Purple Motion (aka Jonne Valtonen)
Unreal ][ was used for most of the Second Reality demo as part of their demogroup, Future Crew. More info on him can be found on his last.fm profile.
Skaven (aka Peter Hajba)
2nd Reality was used towards the end of the Second Reality demo and during the credits. Beyond the Network, a 30-minute track would go on to be used for the Bejeweled soundtrack along with new tracks that he did. His other soundtrack work can be found on his Bandcamp profile.
Necros (aka Andrew Sega)
Necros (aka Andrew Sega) had a very polished sound to his songs. It's no surprise that he went on to become a professional music composer for video games and produce two albums under his alias, The Alpha Conspiracy.
