Voting during a pandemic

Yes, I voted. Polls opened up this week in my area. I dropped my ballot off, but the setup for voting seemed pretty nice, everyone being very careful and helpful. As contentious as politics get on TV and online, it was a nice reminder that people in real life are very pleasant!

When time became history

Speaking of hopefulness for humanity, the Kurzgesagt YouTube channel has a great new video this month on how we evolved agriculturally and culturally. They've also recently released a cool little app on the size of things.

The horror season

I've been watching horror movies and shows this month to avoid the actual horrors happening in the world. I mean, because it's the Halloween season! My top movie pick so far is The Endless, from the same writers who did Spring, which was really great. If you've seen Spring and enjoyed it, I would recommend watching Resolution (also by them) before The Endless.

The Sandman audio visual

The Sandman comic book series by Neil Gaiman is the best of comics, certainly my favorite. While there's constant talks of a Sandman movie or show (it would understandably be very difficult to do), what we do have now is a Sandman audiobook!

I followed along with the comics while listening and was pleasantly surprised by quite a few small additions made throughout, not only for the sake of audio, but also some good narrative editing, and some great bonus bits!

It's narrated by Neil Gaiman himself, with James McAvoy as Morpheus, and a bunch of other great actors. It only covers about the first quarter of the series, but it's a good ten-plus-hour chunk with some of the best parts of the entire run. (And its success so far makes it seem pretty likely that more will come.)
