Writing articlesSince the beginning of this year, I've started marketing efforts for Blocks Edit. A key focus is a blog that I've decided to spin off as its once publication/site which I call Content + Code. The general theme is around ways to manage custom-designed email templates from all aspects: design, code, content. Working on the blog for the last three months gave me the idea to reorganize all my posts on the ovidem.com blog and have categorized the entire archive of articles into four themes: Art & Design, Marketing & Promotion, Tech & Culture, Growth & Craft. And still writing storiesThough writing articles has taken away from my comic writing efforts, I'm still working on putting together ideas when I get a chance and have turned to writing fiction in the form of short stories for the time being. I've finished my latest one a few months ago and am currently having it edited with a plan for releasing it in time for this year's Phoenix Comic Fest (formerly Phoenix Comicon) in May. I actually originally started out writing short stories and even published one up online which you can read for free: Impulse Tracker.
Recommendations and stuffA recent book I finished reading was How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. I've heard about it for years when it comes to business but have always avoided it because it came off as creepy to me just from its title, thinking that it was about manipulation tactics, like pickup artist bullshit. But I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the case after all. It's in fact about understand other people's points of view, whether in business or in personal relationships. And Dale Carnegie has a great, straight-to-the-point writing style that makes it an easy, fun read. And to decompress at the end of the day, I've been on a British comedy kick, starting off with the latest season of Red Dwarf (that's right, that show -- it made a come-back and still has new seasons coming!). I then went on to the first season of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, followed by binging the entire Inbetweeners series. I'm now on Chris Lilley (I know, he's Australian, not British) and a couple of his shows I hadn't previously gotten to: We Can Be Heroes and Angry Boys. That's all for this month! Do you have any recommendations of marketing-related articles, or maybe a good British comedy series? Hit reply and let me know! Or, if you have any questions/comments, or just to say hi and tell me what's new. |
