30 years in the USAToday marks the 30th anniversary of when my mom, my brother, and I came to the US to reunite with my dad. He fled socialist Romania 2-3 years prior to Italy, eventually getting a visa to the US. It was six months after the end of the revolution in Romania which culminated in the show trial and execution of leader Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena, ending 42 years of rule. As my mom tells the story, she had to go to the capital to submit paperwork with my brother and I that my dad had sent her, while there were people literally fighting in the streets. ChernobylI watched the HBO series with my parents who, while still living in Romania at the time of the event in 1986, experienced some of its aftermath first hand. My brother, almost 2 years old, ended up getting meningitis, which was common from the Chernobyl fall out, after a toxic cloud that was formed made its way over Romania. Many children died from meningitis, but my brother survived after a frantic night for my parents finding a hospital and a nurse who knew how to treat it. Looney TunesAfter trying out HBO Max, I ended up going through their library of Looney Tunes cartoons and decided to highlight my favorites. It turns out that the ones I got the most visceral response from were the ones I remember enjoying most as a kid. They still seem to hold up for me. And with all the craziness going on in the world right now, somehow Looney Tunes were just the thing to watch. More cartoon cartoonsI found some new shows to watch after all, and after my Looney Tunes kick, they are all incidentally animated. It started with Steven Universe, which I've heard about in the past and decided to try out. While watching, it reminded me Adventure Time which I'm thinking of seeing some more episodes of after watching season 1 a few years back. Then I came across Spongebob Squarepants who I also saw a few episodes of years ago, and now I'm giving Mike Tyson Mysteries a try. You've signed up for Ovi's updates to get this email. |
