Quarantine projectAbout the point at which the self-quarantine started making me feel pretty down, lacking much energy, I gravitated towards the Myst video game series and watching Let's Plays for them. I also started working on updating the fan site I started years ago and hadn't touched in a few years. It was a nice distraction that helped these last few months and lead me to doing some much needed cleanup and turning it into a guide for the best way to enjoy the series. Hearing Impulse TrackerMore than 7 years ago I wrote my first short story, Impulse Tracker. A couple of weeks ago, the Sample Central music podcast about electronic music similar to the kind the story talks about, did a read of it and included tracks from the unofficial soundtrack. You can listen to it here (it's at the end). Quarantine distractionAnother distraction was watching Steven Universe. It's inspiring, unbridled hopefulness helped as a reminder of how great the world can still be. The entire series that just finished earlier this year is available on Hulu (seasons 1-4) and HBO Max (seasons 1-5, the movie, and the final season/spin-off, Steven Universe: Future). Here's a spoiler-free clip of one of its great songs (that will get stuck in your head all day). ReadingWhen I realized that we'd be into the quarantine for the long haul, one thing I thought about is being able to read more. But with the aforementioned feeling of lethargy, that didn't happen. Recently though, as I started to feel better, I've started reading some comics again. I gave the ComiXology Unlimited subscription the 30 day trial run. One of the highlights was a Bill and Ted's Comic Book Archive collection of 16 issues originally released by Marvel around the time the second movie came out. There's even an alternate take of the movie itself that followed the first version of the script before it was modified during filming. You've signed up for Ovi's updates to get this email. |
